Google Ads Advertiser Verification Failed: How to Fix

Shown in Google Ads: Advertiser verification

How do I complete or fix "Advertiser verification" in Google Ads?

"Advertiser verification" means Google needs to confirm who you are and who pays for your ads before you can keep advertising. Complete every task on the Advertiser verification page before the deadline, using documents whose name and address exactly match your Google Ads payments profile. If it failed, it's almost always a mismatch, and you fix it by correcting the profile or submitting matching documents.

    What this means

Google's Advertiser verification program confirms the identity of advertisers and supports the ad disclosures shown to users ("Ads funded by"). Google notifies you when verification is needed. Only an account admin can complete the tasks, and which tasks you see depends on your account type, billing setup and other factors.

    Two situations:

    • With a deadline: if you don't complete verification by the deadline shown on the verification page, Google pauses the account. A paused account can only run ads again after verification is completed.
    • Without a deadline: you can keep advertising, but verifying may unlock more formats and remove limits.

Google says reviews take up to five business days in most cases, and rarely up to 30 days.

    Why it happens

Verification is triggered as part of Google's normal program rollout, but it's common for e-commerce stores when:

    • The account is new, or recently started spending more.
    • The business is in an industry Google verifies more closely (some, such as healthcare and financial products, also get questions about their domain).
    • Billing or payment information changed.
    • The account is appealing a suspension; some appeals can only be filed after verification.

    Failures usually come from:

    • Name mismatch. The legal name on documents differs from the payments profile name (for example "Acme Goods" vs "Acme Goods LLC", or a personal name on a business profile).
    • Address mismatch. Documents show a different address or country from the payments profile.
    • Wrong document type. A utility bill or invoice uploaded where a business registration was needed, or a blurred or cropped ID.
    • DBA confusion. A trade name that isn't shown on the registration document.
    • Promotional or domain names. Google says organization names shouldn't include promotional language, domains, or special characters.
    • Agency mix-ups. An agency that answers "No" to "Is your organization an agency?", or verifies under its own name for a client's payments.

    How to fix it

    1. Open the verification page. In Google Ads, go to the Advertiser verification section (under Admin or Billing, depending on your account layout). Note your deadline and each task's status.
    2. Answer the organization questions accurately. Choose individual or organization correctly. If you manage ads for clients, answer "Yes" to being an agency. Google warns that answering incorrectly can lead to the account being paused or suspended.
    3. Fix the payments profile first. Make the payments profile name and address match your legal registration exactly, before uploading anything. Changing the profile after a failed attempt is often the real fix.
    4. Complete the right identity tasks. Depending on your setup, Google may ask you to:
      • Organizations: provide Dun & Bradstreet details (optionally a D-U-N-S number) or upload organization documents such as articles of incorporation or a state business registration. After three unsuccessful D-U-N-S attempts you'll be asked for documents instead.
      • Individuals: confirm your phone number, confirm your SSN (US only), submit a government-issued photo ID, or take a video selfie. Each has attempt limits (for example, three for SSN and five for phone) before Google switches you to another method.
      • Confirm affiliation with your organization using a code sent by SMS or organization email.
    5. Handle billing tasks. If asked to confirm your payment method, Google places a small temporary charge (no more than $1.95 USD); enter the six-digit code from its description. Or complete the payment task if offered.
    6. Set "Ads funded by" correctly. This defaults to the payments profile name. Agencies use their client's payment profile.
    7. Upload clean documents. Full pages, readable, not expired, in color where possible, showing the exact same name and address.

    How long until it's resolved

Most submissions are reviewed within five business days, and occasionally up to 30 days. If your account is paused for missing the deadline, it unpauses once verification is approved.

If verification fails, read the reason carefully. Fix the mismatch, then retry the task or use the alternate method Google offers. Google advises against creating new accounts during or after a failed verification, as those accounts may also be paused. If you've exhausted retries on a method, use the fallback task (usually document upload) or contact Google Ads support from the verification page.

    How to prevent it

    • Start immediately when the notification appears, so you aren't racing the deadline.
    • Keep one legal identity across your business registration, payments profile, website footer and Merchant Center.
    • Store key documents (registration, EIN letter, ID) in one place for quick uploads.
    • Agencies: set up client accounts with the client's payments profile from the start.
