"Unsupported Shopping content" means some of your products are types Google doesn't allow in Shopping listings, not because they're harmful, but because Shopping isn't built for them. Services, tickets, vehicles and subscriptions are common examples. The fix is usually to remove those items from your feed, or restructure them so they fit an allowed exception.
Unsupported Shopping Content in Merchant Center: What to Do
How do I fix "Unsupported Shopping content" in Google Merchant Center?
What this issue means
Unsupported Shopping content is prohibited content under Google's Shopping ads policies. Google says it doesn't allow certain types of products because it can't provide a good user experience for them in Shopping.
Google's policy lists these as not allowed:
| Type | Examples |
|---|---|
| Ticket sales | Concert tickets, airline tickets, bus reservations |
| Vehicles | Cars, RVs, boats, motorcycles, mopeds, jet skis |
| Financial products | Insurance, credit cards, stocks, money orders |
| eBooks and digital books | PDF, ePub and MOBI books (Shopping ads only) |
| Currency | Gold bullion, precious metals, virtual currency |
| Open-loop gift cards | Visa, Mastercard or American Express gift cards |
| Services | Repairs, installation, accounting, streaming, in-game currency |
| Immovable property | Real estate, land, non-portable homes |
| Recurring billing | Subscriptions with regular payments for goods |
| Billing through product software | Purchases that require installing extra software |
There are also conditional exceptions, including some light vehicles for Vehicle ads, closed-loop gift cards for specific stores, certain recurring-billing products such as magazines, annual prepaid software and some mobile plans, motor-powered bicycles that meet legal speed limits, and home test kits analyzed in a lab.
Google says violations of this policy don't lead to immediate suspension without warning. Usually the affected products are disapproved, and if there are many, the account can get a warning.
Why it happens
- Services listed as products, such as "Installation service" or "Extended warranty" added to the feed by a store platform.
- Digital downloads, such as eBooks, printable PDFs or courses, synced automatically from your store.
- Gift cards, especially if the platform exports them as a product.
- Subscriptions like "Coffee of the month" where the price is recurring.
- Event or workshop tickets sold through the store.
- Deposit or booking products, such as a "Consultation deposit."
- Bullion or coins priced by market value.
- Bundles that mix goods and services, which Google treats as services.
How to fix it
- Export the disapproved products from Products, then Needs attention, filtered by this issue.
- Classify each one against the table above. Is it truly unsupported, or misread?
- Exclude unsupported items from the feed. On Shopify and similar platforms, you can usually exclude products from the Google sales channel. Otherwise use a feed rule, a custom label or a supplemental feed to exclude them.
- Check auto-synced items. Gift cards, shipping protection, warranties and "tip" products are often added by apps without you noticing.
- Split mixed bundles. If a product includes a service, list the physical item on its own.
- Restructure subscriptions where possible. Offer a one-time purchase option of the physical product and list that in Shopping.
- Fix misclassified products. If a physical product was flagged because its title sounds like a service ("Repair kit service"), rewrite the title to clearly describe the physical item.
- Promote unsupported items elsewhere. Services, tickets and digital products can often use Search campaigns instead of Shopping.
How to request a review
Excluded products don't need a review. They simply stop being submitted.
For physical products you believe were wrongly flagged, edit the listing to make the item clearer, which triggers an automatic re-review, or use the appeal option in Needs attention.
If there's an account-level warning, open View setup and policy issues or the Review and fix banner and request a review once the unsupported products are gone.
How long it takes
Feed changes are usually picked up on the next feed fetch or sync. Product re-reviews generally happen within a day or two. Google says account reviews typically take about 7 business days, longer for complex cases.
How to prevent it
- Set up a default exclusion for gift cards, services, digital products and app-generated add-ons.
- Check new products before they sync to Google.
- Review the disapproved list after installing any app that adds products.
- Keep services and digital products in a separate collection that's not shared with Google.
