Google Merchant Center reviews every product in your feed against its product data specification. Errors such as a missing price, an invalid GTIN or an unsupported availability value can block products from showing in Shopping ads and free listings, and fixing them after the fact means waiting for Google to reprocess. This checker runs the most common validations in your browser so you can fix problems first.

How do I check my Merchant Center feed for errors?
When to use the merchant center feed checker
Best for
- Checking a feed before submitting it
- Finding the cause of product disapprovals
- Catching duplicate IDs from variant exports
Not the right pick for
- XML feeds — export to CSV or TSV first
- Account-level issues like misrepresentation — use the misrepresentation checklist
How it works
- 1
Export your feed
Save it as CSV or TSV with attribute names in the first row.
- 2
Upload the file
Add it to the checker in your browser.
- 3
Review results
Fix errors first, then warnings.
- 4
Fix the source data
Correct your store or feed tool so issues do not return.
How to use the feed checker
- Export your feed as a CSV or TSV file from Shopify, WooCommerce, your feed app or a spreadsheet. The first row must contain attribute names such as
id,titleandprice. - Upload the file in the tool above.
- Review the results. Each product is listed with its errors (likely to cause disapproval) and warnings (likely to hurt performance or trigger issues later).
- Fix the source data, not just the export, so the problem does not return on the next sync.
What the checker validates
Required attributes
The checker looks for the core attributes Google requires for most products:
| Attribute | What Google expects |
|---|---|
id | Unique per product, up to 50 characters, ideally your SKU |
title | Up to 150 characters |
description | Up to 5,000 characters |
link | Landing page URL on your verified domain |
image_link | URL of the main product image |
availability | in_stock, out_of_stock, preorder or backorder |
price | Number plus ISO 4217 currency code, for example 15.00 USD |
condition | new, refurbished or used; required for used and refurbished items |
brand, gtin, mpn | Brand for most new products; GTIN when one exists; MPN if there is no GTIN |
Length limits
Titles over 150 characters and descriptions over 5,000 characters are truncated by Google. The checker flags them so you decide what gets cut. Remember that shoppers usually see only the first 70 or so characters of a title, so the most important words belong at the start.
Price format
Prices need a period as the decimal separator and a currency code. The checker flags missing currencies, commas used as decimals, currency symbols and zero prices. In the US and Canada, prices should exclude tax.
Availability values
Values must be one of the four supported options. Common errors include In Stock, instock, available or a stock count. Preorder and backorder items also need an availability date.
GTIN check digits
Every GTIN ends in a check digit calculated from the other digits. The checker recalculates it and flags values that fail, as well as lengths other than 8, 12, 13 or 14 digits. For a deeper look at individual codes, use the GTIN checker.
Duplicate IDs
Each product needs its own id. Duplicates usually come from exporting variants without unique identifiers, and they cause products to overwrite each other.
http vs https links
Links and image links must start with http or https. The checker warns on plain http because insecure landing pages and images invite problems with browsers and with Google's review of your site.
Errors vs warnings
Errors are issues Google is likely to reject the product for, such as a missing required attribute or an invalid availability value. Fix these first. Warnings will not always cause a disapproval but limit performance or signal risk, such as a truncated title or an http link.
Common feed mistakes
- Exporting variants without a unique
idfor each size and color. - Putting promotional text ("Free shipping", "Sale") in titles.
- Inventing GTINs for private-label products instead of using brand and MPN.
- Sending a price in the feed that does not match the price on the landing page.
Tips
- Fix errors in your store or feed tool, then re-export and re-check.
- After errors are clean, improve titles with the product title builder and read our guide to product feed optimization.
- If Merchant Center still shows account-level issues after the feed is clean, our Merchant Center fix service can help.
