Inaccurate Availability in Merchant Center: How to Fix It

Shown in Google Merchant Center: Inaccurate availability (due to inconsistent availability between the landing page and checkout pages on your website)

How do I fix "Inaccurate availability" in Merchant Center?

"Inaccurate availability" means Google found products that look in stock on your landing page but can't actually be purchased at checkout, for example the cart rejects the item, the buy button doesn't work or the product can't ship to the shopper's address. The fix is to make sure every product marked in_stock can be bought and delivered across the target country, mark the rest correctly, then request a review.

    What this issue means

Unlike "Mismatched product availability," which compares your feed with the product page, this issue comes from Google testing the purchase path. Google saw a product as available on the page but hit a wall at checkout. Because shoppers would hit the same wall, Google typically sends a warning email with a deadline, and the issue can appear at account level. If it isn't resolved, products are disapproved and the account can be suspended.

    Why it happens

The causes Google describes, which match what we see in audits:

    • Geolocation-based availability. The site changes stock or blocks checkout based on IP. Googlebot's location gets a different answer than the product page promised.
    • A broken add-to-cart or buy button. Theme updates, JavaScript errors or app conflicts stop the button from working, sometimes only for certain variants.
    • Items that can't ship to a home address. In-store pickup only, pickup-point only or freight items that checkout refuses for standard addresses.
    • Partial-country availability. You ship to some US states but not others (for example, not to Alaska or Hawaii, or restricted products in certain states), while the feed says the product is available countrywide.
    • Hidden stock rules. Minimum quantities, B2B-only items, or "contact us to order" products that show as in stock.
    • Inventory reserved or depleted at checkout while the page shows a cached "in stock" status.

    How to fix it

    1. Start with the email examples. Google lists sample products. Try buying each one in a private window with a US shipping address, going as far as the payment step.
    2. Fix technical checkout blockers. If the add-to-cart button fails, check the browser console for errors, disable recently installed apps or plugins one at a time and test across mobile and desktop.
    3. Stop changing availability by location. Remove IP-based stock or checkout rules for product pages. If you genuinely have regional differences, use Google's regional availability and pricing features or account-level shipping settings to describe them instead.
    4. Exclude what can't be shipped. For pickup-only products, use excluded_destination for Shopping ads (and consider local inventory ads for store pickup). For items you can't ship to certain areas, set those exclusions in your shipping settings.
    5. Mark unbuyable items correctly. Products that require a quote, are B2B-only or are discontinued should be out_of_stock or removed from the feed.
    6. Platform specifics.
      • Shopify: Check Shopify Markets and shipping zones; a product sold in a market but with no shipping rate for the address will fail at checkout. Look at apps that hide the buy button or restrict checkout by location.
      • WooCommerce: Review shipping zones (a "no shipping methods available" message is a common culprit), product shipping classes and any plugin that restricts countries or states.
    7. Resubmit data if you changed it, then request a review in Merchant Center or appeal from the warning. Google says a small ad edit or selecting Appeal triggers a new crawl. If your product data was already correct, you can request the review without resubmitting.

    How long until it's fixed

Google says the crawl usually completes within 24 to 48 hours after you request a review. If the review succeeds, the disapproval is removed. Some cases require extra verification, and Google may limit how many reviews you can request, so test thoroughly before you ask.

    How to prevent it

    • Test the full checkout on desktop and mobile after every theme, app or plugin update.
    • Keep shipping zones and Merchant Center shipping settings covering the same areas.
    • Never mark products in_stock unless they can be bought online and delivered.
    • Avoid IP-based restrictions on product pages and checkout.
    • Publish a clear shipping policy that lists any regions you can't serve; our shipping policy generator can help.

    FAQ

    Frequently Asked Questions

Mismatched product availability compares feed data with the landing page. Inaccurate availability is about the landing page saying in stock while checkout won't complete the purchase.

Yes. Describe your shipping limits in Merchant Center shipping settings so Google knows where the product is deliverable. The issue comes from claiming availability you can't fulfill.

Confirm the site is working, then request a review. If your data and checkout are correct, the next crawl should clear the issue.
