Unable to View Store on Desktop in Merchant Center: Fix

Shown in Google Merchant Center: Unable to view store on desktop

How do I fix "Unable to view store on desktop" in Merchant Center?

"Unable to view store on desktop" means Google's desktop crawler tried to open your product pages and couldn't see the product, often because it was stopped by a password page, a login wall, a country block, bot protection or a redirect to somewhere else. The fix is to make product pages publicly accessible to any visitor from any location without logging in, allow verified Googlebot through your firewall or CDN and then request a website check.

    What this issue means

Google requires landing pages to work for everyone: any device, any location, any browser, no account needed. When the crawler is redirected to a login, password, "access denied" or homepage instead of the product, Google can't confirm the price or availability, so it disables the products in Shopping ads and free listings. When a 404 or server error is the cause, Google reports Product page unavailable instead; this page focuses on access blocks, which look fine to you but not to Google.

    Why it happens

    • Password-protected store. A Shopify store still in password mode, a WooCommerce "coming soon" or maintenance mode plugin, or a staging domain in the feed.
    • Login required to see prices or buy. Wholesale or B2B setups that hide prices from logged-out visitors, or member-only products.
    • Geo-blocking. Your site blocks or redirects visitors outside your country. Googlebot mostly crawls from US IP addresses, so a non-US store that blocks US traffic blocks Google.
    • Bot protection. Cloudflare, Sucuri, Wordfence or host-level firewalls serve a challenge page, CAPTCHA or 403 to the crawler.
    • Forced redirects. Visitors are redirected to a country store, language selector or homepage based on IP or cookies, so the crawler never reaches the product URL. More than two redirects also fails Google's limit.
    • Age gates and region selectors implemented as redirects to a separate page.
    • Rate limiting. The server returns 429 or blocks the crawler when it requests many product pages quickly.

    How to fix it

    1. See what Google sees. Run an affected URL through the URL Inspection Tool's live test in Search Console and look at the rendered screenshot and HTTP response. A login form, challenge page or homepage in the screenshot confirms an access block.
    2. Remove the password or maintenance mode.
      • Shopify: In Online Store > Preferences, disable the password page. A store can't run Shopping while password-protected.
      • WooCommerce: Turn off coming-soon or maintenance plugins and make sure the feed uses the live domain, not a staging URL.
    3. Make prices visible without login. Products in your feed must be purchasable by the public at the advertised price. Remove B2B-only or member-only items from the feed, or give them public pages and prices.
    4. Stop blocking by location. Replace IP redirects with a dismissible banner or selector. If you sell only in certain countries, control that through shipping and countries of sale in Merchant Center, not by blocking visitors.
    5. Allow verified Google crawlers through security tools.
      • In Cloudflare, enable verified bot allowances and check that WAF custom rules, Bot Fight Mode and country blocks aren't challenging Googlebot.
      • In WordPress security plugins, check firewall, country blocking and rate-limit settings.
      • Allow Google's crawlers based on verification (reverse DNS or your provider's verified bot list), not just the user-agent string.
    6. Fix redirects. Product URLs in your feed should load directly with no redirects, and never more than two. Make sure tracking parameters and country routing don't add hops.
    7. Handle age gates carefully. Use an overlay on the product URL rather than redirecting to a separate verification page.
    8. Request a website check in Merchant Center from the issue panel once the live test shows the product.

    How long until it's fixed

Google says a website check can take up to 12 hours, and you can't submit another during that window. After the block is removed, the issue should clear from Needs attention within a couple of days. If the block was intermittent (rate limiting or a firewall spike), expect some products to clear before others.

    How to prevent it

    • Never launch Shopping campaigns while a store is password-protected or in maintenance mode.
    • Before adding a firewall rule or country block, test it against Googlebot with URL Inspection.
    • Keep country routing optional for shoppers, not forced.
    • Keep wholesale and member-only items out of your public feed.
    • Review security plugin logs for blocked Google crawler requests monthly.

    FAQ

    Frequently Asked Questions

Google expects shoppers to be able to see the price and buy without logging in. Products that need an account to purchase generally aren't suitable for Shopping ads.

Not if you allow only verified Google crawlers. Most CDNs and security tools have a verified-bot setting that checks requests really come from Google.

Googlebot mostly crawls from the US, so blocking US IP addresses can block Google. Allow the crawler at minimum, and preferably let all visitors view product pages.
