Product Page Unavailable in Merchant Center: How to Fix It

Shown in Google Merchant Center: Product page unavailable

How do I fix "Product page unavailable" in Google Merchant Center?

"Product page unavailable" means Google tried to load the URL in your link (or mobile_link) attribute and couldn't, because of a 404, a server error, too many redirects, DNS problems or a malformed URL, so it disabled the product. The fastest fix is to open the exact URL from your feed, find which error applies, fix the page or the link, then click Request website check in Merchant Center.

    What this issue means

Google can't show a product it can't reach. When the crawler fails to load the landing page, the item stops appearing in Shopping ads and free listings until Google can access it again. Older accounts may show the same problem as Unavailable desktop landing page or a specific error like Page not found (404).

A few randomly affected products often clear on the next crawl. A growing number of affected products almost always means something changed on your site.

    Why it happens

    Google lists these error types:

    ErrorWhat it usually means
Page not found (404)Product deleted, URL handle changed or wrong URL in the feed
Too many redirectsThe URL redirects more than 2 times, or loops
Couldn't connect / HTTP 5xxServer overloaded, down or timing out during the crawl
Can't access robots.txtGoogle couldn't fetch your robots.txt file at all
Hostname not resolvableDNS misconfiguration, often after a domain change
Invalid URL protocolURL doesn't start with http:// or https://, isn't on your verified domain or has unencoded characters

    Typical real-world triggers:

    • You renamed product handles or slugs without redirects, and the feed still has the old URLs.
    • You moved to a new domain or platform, and the feed or redirects weren't updated.
    • Discontinued products were deleted from the store but not from the feed.
    • Tracking parameters, http to https, www to non-www and trailing-slash redirects stack into a chain longer than two hops.
    • Your host rate-limited or blocked Googlebot during a crawl spike.

    How to fix it

    1. Get the exact URL. In Products > Needs attention, filter by this issue, open a product and copy the URL Google tried. Note the specific error shown.
    2. Test it like Google. Paste it into a private window, then check it with the URL Inspection Tool in Search Console (choose desktop or smartphone). Use a redirect checker to count hops.
    3. Fix by error type.
      • 404: Restore the product page, add a 301 redirect from the old URL to the current one, or update the feed with the right URL. If the product is gone for good, remove it from the feed.
      • Too many redirects: Make the feed URL the final URL: https, your preferred host, correct trailing slash. Remove redirect loops.
      • 5xx or can't connect: Check server logs and uptime around the crawl time. Upgrade hosting or adjust rate limits so Googlebot isn't throttled.
      • Robots.txt unreachable: Make sure yourdomain.com/robots.txt returns a 200 (or a clean 404), not a 5xx or timeout.
      • Hostname or protocol: Fix DNS, use your claimed domain and URL-encode special characters (a comma becomes %2C).
    4. Fix links at the source.
      • Shopify (Google & YouTube app): The app builds URLs from your product handles. After changing a handle, Shopify can create a redirect automatically if you tick the redirect option; make sure it's on. Resync the product by saving it. Deleted products should be removed from the app's sync.
      • WooCommerce: Changing a product slug or permalink structure can break URLs. Use a redirect plugin and regenerate your feed. Check that Google for WooCommerce or your feed plugin is sending the current permalink.
      • Feed files: Update the link column, or use an attribute rule or supplemental source to correct URLs in bulk.
    5. Update individual products in Merchant Center by choosing Edit product and correcting the link, or download the affected-items CSV, fix the URLs and reupload.
    6. Request a website check. From the product's issue details choose Request website check. You may need to switch off Prioritized fixes and choose Show all fixes to see it.

    How long until it's fixed

Google says a requested website check can take up to 12 hours, and you can't submit another during that time. Errors should clear from Needs attention within a couple of days after the fix, and products return to ads and free listings. If you don't request a check, Google re-reviews automatically, just later.

    How to prevent it

    • Always 301-redirect old product URLs when changing handles, slugs or domains.
    • Remove deleted products from the feed at the same time as the store.
    • Submit final, canonical URLs with no redirect hops.
    • Monitor uptime and keep hosting capacity ahead of crawl and traffic spikes.
    • Scan feed URLs regularly with our Merchant Center feed checker.

    FAQ

    Frequently Asked Questions

Google may have hit a temporary server error, a redirect chain or a block that regular visitors don't see. Test with the URL Inspection Tool and check server logs at the time of the crawl.

Only if they're truly discontinued. For live products, fix the URL or the server issue instead; deleting and re-adding products can take time to recover.

Google's limit is two redirects. Ideally your feed URL should load the product page directly with none.
